Glossary · Brand standards manual

What is a brand standards manual in hotels?

A brand standards manual is the document in which a hotel brand sets out its standards: the required outcomes and conditions every property flying its flag must meet, numbered so an audit can cite each one. The brand issues it and owns every line in it. Properties meet it; they do not edit it.

In practice.

  • Who issues it, who uses it. The brand writes it and the franchise or management agreement makes compliance a condition of keeping the flag. The owner, the operator and every department head work from it; the brand's quality team audits against it.
  • How it is organized. By area or journey moment (arrival, guest room, bathroom, food and beverage, life safety, back of house) or by department, with each item numbered and marked required or recommended.
  • What it is not. It is not the operator's SOP binder: the manual says what, the SOPs say how. A brand book usually means the visual identity guide, not the operating standards.

Where Levee fits.

Levee carries the brand's standards and the property's SOPs to the moment of work, and the inspection agent checks a room against the standard as the property team walks it.

Questions

The brand. Owners and operators comply with it under the franchise or management agreement, and the brand's quality team verifies it on property.
